Reader Question:

What is life after death in The Urantia Book? What are the Mansion Worlds and “morontia.”

Response:

When you die here, you are potentially resurrected in the first segment of heaven—The Seven Mansion Worlds. If your true intent is to follow the divine leading, if your true intent is to do the Father’s will, then you have helped create your soul which is your vehicle to the next life.

The morontia life is the type of life we begin when we are resurrected. We are evolutionary beings—we grow steadily toward Godlikeness—spirit perfection. We will never be Gods, but we will have perfected the doing of the Father’s will, and mastered all aspects of our selves. But, that perfection is countless eons in the future, and the intervening time will be a matchless adventure in universe exploration and spiritual education and service. Work and play will be balanced, however.

So, you can see that the types of lives we live are in three phases: 1. Material, 2. Mornontial, and 3. Spirit. Mornontial is everything that is between a purely material substance and a purely spirit substance. When we wake up on Mansion World Number 1 (we go through seven), we are barely morontial; our spiritual memories reside in the soul we created here on Urantia.

But, it’s not just us that will be morontial—even the bodies we will have and the planets we will live on—the Mansion Worlds and other planets—will be made of morontia substance. This is the gradual feathering in of spiritual substances. And, when we progress, our morontia bodies are retuned and upgraded so that they can express and respond to the demands of an ever-increasingly spiritual soul. The soul also makes the gradual evolution from morontial to spirit.

So . . . what is heaven? Well, heaven is all the educational planets we live on after this life. When you are resurrected, you will remember your friends and family and all spiritual experiences from your Earth life. And, you will see anyone who passed on and made the choice to do the Father’s will. You will continue to remember as you progress from planet to planet until, ultimately, you arrive on Paradise—the central residence of the Universal Father, Eternal Son, and Infinite Spirit—the Paradise Trinity.

And, after that, you will eventually be sent out in the wider universe on your mission of service.

Heaven is not separate from the physical universe we live in: it is integrated with it. If we could travel through space, we would eventually arrive at the physical location of the Mansion Worlds, as well as all the other planets of heaven. Heaven is composed of planets—except Paradise—because beings need real places to reside in.

How many heaven planets are we talking about? Well, there are thousands between our primary section of space and the next main area—Havona. And, Havona is composed of 1 billion planets. After that, we arrive on Paradise, at the very center of the physical universe.

So, when you think about heaven and life after death, you are talking about the description that The Urantia Book provides in all of Part I and Part II. It’s that big. I suggest you go to Paper 15 for full details. Here is a key quote from Paper 15:

Your world is called Urantia, and it is number 606 in the planetary group, or system, of Satania. This system has at present 619 inhabited worlds, and more than two hundred additional planets are evolving favorably toward becoming inhabited worlds at some future time.

15:14.6 (182.5) Satania has a headquarters world called Jerusem, and it is system number twenty-four in the constellation of Norlatiadek. Your constellation, Norlatiadek, consists of one hundred local systems and has a headquarters world called Edentia. Norlatiadek is number seventy in the universe of Nebadon. The local universe of Nebadon consists of one hundred constellations and has a capital known as Salvington. The universe of Nebadon is number eighty-four in the minor sector of Ensa.

15:14.7 (182.6) The minor sector of Ensa consists of one hundred local universes and has a capital called Uminor the third. This minor sector is number three in the major sector of Splandon. Splandon consists of one hundred minor sectors and has a headquarters world called Umajor the fifth. It is the fifth major sector of the superuniverse of Orvonton, the seventh segment of the grand universe. Thus you can locate your planet in the scheme of the organization and administration of the universe of universes.

15:14.8 (182.7) The grand universe number of your world, Urantia, is 5,342,482,337,666. That is the registry number on Uversa and on Paradise, your number in the catalogue of the inhabited worlds. I know the physical-sphere registry number, but it is of such an extraordinary size that it is of little practical significance to the mortal mind.

15:14.9 (183.1) Your planet is a member of an enormous cosmos; you belong to a well-nigh infinite family of worlds, but your sphere is just as precisely administered and just as lovingly fostered as if it were the only inhabited world in all existence.

You see, the universe doesn’t have separate planes of increasingly spiritual vibrations, but rather, it has concentric rings of increasing spiritual vibrations, people, and realities. Think of a vinyl album: Paradise is in the center, and we are on the outside.  You can get a visual tour in the Cosmology tab on this page from our website:  http://jkasdf.com/ubnrs/?page_id=66

Here’s an artist’s vision of part of the structure of the universe. Gary Tonge is a Urantia Book reader and does astounding work like that below (see his website at: http://www.visionafar.com/index.php?page=Prints).

108:6.8 (1194.1) You humans have begun an endless unfolding of an almost infinite panorama, a limitless expanding of never-ending, ever-widening spheres of opportunity for exhilarating service, matchless adventure, sublime uncertainty, and boundless attainment. When the clouds gather overhead, your faith should accept the fact of the presence of the indwelling Adjuster, and thus you should be able to look beyond the mists of mortal uncertainty into the clear shining of the sun of eternal righteousness on the beckoning heights of the mansion worlds of Satania. (Satania was named after Satan when he was still a good angel: Chris’s note.)

Most importantly, heaven begins NOW. When you do the Father’s will, when you serve, when you grow, you are in God’s presence—the kingdom of heaven. The spiritual growth process after Earth is identical to that we have here.

48:6.37 (555.5) You will learn that you increase your burdens and decrease the likelihood of success by taking yourself too seriously. Nothing can take precedence over the work of your status sphere — this world or the next. Very important is the work of preparation for the next higher sphere, but nothing equals the importance of the work of the world in which you are actually living. But though the work is important, the self is not. When you feel important, you lose energy to the wear and tear of ego dignity so that there is little energy left to do the work. Self-importance, not work-importance, exhausts immature creatures; it is the self element that exhausts, not the effort to achieve. You can do important work if you do not become self-important; you can do several things as easily as one if you leave yourself out. Variety is restful; monotony is what wears and exhausts. Day after day is alike — just life or the alternative of death.

Have a great day, and may you feel the Father’s presence each day, and thrill to the eternal adventure of doing His will and severing your sisters and brothers.

Peace be with you. All praise to our glorious, majestic, kind, and infinite Universal Father!
